Getting started

Start with a document

From the welcome screen, choose the approach that fits what you want to hear.

1

Open a file

Tap Open and choose a document from your device or cloud file provider. RETU supports text-based PDF, TXT, Markdown, DOCX, ODT, EPUB, RTF, and Google Docs files.

2

Or paste text

Tap Paste, add a title, insert your text, and tap Import. This works well for notes, drafts, articles, and shorter passages.

3

Let RETU prepare it

RETU extracts the readable text, divides it into listening sections, and opens the reading view.

Good to know

The first narration may take a little longer while RETU downloads its speech model and selected voice. After that, narration is generated on your device.

02

Reading and playback

Listen and follow along

Keep the document visible while it speaks, or expand the reading view when you want fewer distractions.

1

Play and pause

Use the large center control to prepare narration, start listening, pause, or resume.

2

Follow narration

Turn on Follow to keep the active sentence centered as the document is spoken.

3

Move through the document

Use replay, the 10-second controls, the progress bar, or the narration timeline to move around.

Good to know

Try it: press Play while Follow is on. The current sentence becomes more prominent while nearby text stays visible for context.

03

Voice and pace

Make narration yours

Open Settings and More from the player, then use the Reader tab to adjust how RETU sounds and moves.

1

Choose a narrator

Try a few lines with Replay after changing voices. Names and technical terms can sound different across narrators.

2

Set the playback speed

Use a slower pace for dense material, a moderate pace for everyday reading, and a faster pace for familiar content.

3

Use the timeline

Move among prepared sections or jump toward a page in paged documents.

Good to know

RETU remembers your selected narrator, playback speed, and reading position locally so you can continue later.

04

Bookmarks and resume

Save your place

Create named bookmarks for passages you want to revisit, or simply let RETU remember where you stopped.

1

Add a bookmark

Pause near the passage, then use the bookmark control in the player or top app bar.

2

Keep labels useful

Rename automatic labels to something memorable, such as Key finding, Review later, or Chapter summary.

3

Resume a recent document

Select it from the welcome screen, then choose Resume Now or Start Over.

Good to know

When you resume, RETU can restore the saved part, playback time, voice, speed, and bookmarks.

05

Export audio

Take the audio with you

Saved exports are separate from live narration and render the full document as an M4A audio file.

1

Open Export

Tap Settings and More in the player, then choose the Export tab.

2

Render the document

Tap Render Export. RETU shows progress while it generates the audio.

3

Preview or share

When it is ready, use Play, Open, or Share. Use Remove when you no longer need the saved export.

Important

Automated narration and highlighting can contain errors. For important material, always verify the result against the original document.
